Mama

Mama--
I love you dearest
I hope you know.
The nights are easier with you around.
I enjoy watching you sit and read.
You've been on the same page for weeks.
Sometimes I ask--
Where has Daddy gone?
I go to the basement to see if he is there.
I find him rotting with the dead rats.
Those rats are hard to keep away.
Mama--
Lucky for you that I love you.
I would never throw you to the rats
Though it is annoying
The way your head keeps falling off.
