He Worked In The Garden
He Worked In The Garden
By, Valerie Valano
He worked in the garden
From sun to sun
He gave his all when
Life was fun
He wiped their tears
When they cried
And settled their fears
When they wanted to hide
One day he sat
At their side
There he wept
For the first time
They said,
Daddy, we’ll pray
Real hard for you
But we don’t what to say
Or how To fix you
**break**
(CHORUS)
Tell us why
Why…
You chose this lonely road?
Tell us why
Why…
You became so cold?
Why didn’t you stop to think
Of all that could have been?
And why would you rather drink
Knowing it all would end?
Daddy, Why?
(END CHORUS)
BRIDGE
(next page)
The years rolled by
And still he cried
Lost in the bottom
Of his beer
He slowly stopped
working the garden
Year after year
Wounds scarred their hearts
As they grew into adults
Each of them
still loving the man
who tore it all apart
Still they prayed
Each of them
In their own way
Four kids who loved him
every single day
Then, one day
They stood at his side
Wiping the tears from each other’s eyes
As They looked down at his grave
They never understood why
it ended this way
Daddy, why couldn’t you just see
The man you used to be?
When you worked the garden
From sun to sun
And Daddy, we forgive you
For this pain in our heart
And for all you didn’t do
When the damage was done
( REPEAT CHORUS)
He worked in the garden
From sun to sun
He gave his all when
Life was fun

He wiped their tears
When they cried
And settled their fears
When they wanted to hide
They said,
Daddy, we’ll pray

Wiping the tears from each other’s eyes
As They looked down at his grave
