Long Gone

When I am first gone

Regard not my Death-Grin

   as a finished frown,

Rather the Reaper's fashion

(A chilling twin)

In memory of you long

   above the living ground--

And pleasure without passion

That I am first gone--

When you are first gone

My death be quite sudden

   as silence to sound,

And only dust to ration

The earthen quick--

But alas, the eternal song

   to which I am bound

Plays long for compassion

Long after I'm gone--
