Living With a Lie

Living With a Lie

You sit so close
Yet you are so far.
You keep your feeings
Bottled in a jar
That you keep on the back shelf
Deep in your mind.
Always afraid
Of what you might find
If you let yourself go
And told the truth
Instead of always being
So cold and uncouth.
Things would be different
If you could just let go
And let your true feelings
Be the ones that show.
So secretive and quiet
Hiding what's really there,
Not admitting to yourself
That you really do care.
How does it feel
To live with a lie?
Things would be different
If you would just try.
Ignore other people;
It is just you and me.
Who cares if us together
Is what other people see.
If it's what you really want
Don't let others hold you back
Their criticisms and hate won't make up
For the feelings of love you lack.
Talk is cheap
And time goes by too fast.
Look to the future,
Learn from, but let go of the past.
You and I together
Would certainly last
But don't sit and hesitate,
Each day could be our last.
You owe it to yourself
To be true.
So now that you've read this,
What will you do?
