No New Messages.


Laura began rummaging through her school bag. Her heart began to beat faster and faster. She could feel it pounding in her neck. She began to panic. Her hands became sweaty and sticky. She knelt down on her bedroom floor. She pulled books out of her bag and threw them across the room. She bent further and further into the bag, trying to see the object she longed to find.
“Ah ha!” She said. She pulled out a photo. It was slightly crumpled. Laura straightened it out carefully. She got up from the floor and walked over to her desk. Her desk was cluttered with makeup, books and magazines. She leaned the photo up in the corner of her mirror. Laura sighed. She ran over and jumped onto her bed. She buried her head inside her pillow. She couldn’t believe it was almost five weeks since she had seen James. Since she had felt his skin on her skin. Since they had last shared that kiss in the pouring rain. Laura quickly wiped away the tears that had fallen from her eyes. She shook her head.
“What’s the point “she sighed. “ He’s never coming back”.
Laura got up off the bed. She picked up her phone from the windowsill. She examined it. No New Messages.
Laura went downstairs. She was home alone. Her parents had gone out for dinner with their neighbour and wouldn’t be in till late. The whole downstairs was in darkness. Laura walked carefully though the hallway into the living room. She switched on the light. What she saw next brought back
